My husband and I consider Pet Supermarket in Albany to be our go-to store for almost everything for our dogs. It's very easy to get in and out of their location and because it's a standalone store, there's almost always a parking space right at the door. I like the fact I recognize the faces of the employees after shopping there since they opened some years ago--to me, this means they have high employee satisfaction and low turnover. Longtime employees know their store and product lines; I've always been greeted as I enter and receive great product advice when I need it.

The three cats that are for adoption do not appear well cared for. One of them definately needs to be groomed. Then pen is very small, toys looked like dog toys, litter needed to be changed. It looked as though it had not been changed all day. Only one thing in entire pen for a can to lay on, there were three.

If you really have questions, you should ask to speak to the manager. The employees here will just tell you anything. One the up side they do have a healthy selection of tropical freshwater fish. Best in town. If they could up their service a touch, 5 stars.

Animals at this store are not cared for. Employees aren't very helpful. In the small animal section, their cages didn't have tops on them so they were just open, bratty children came through roughly picking up the Gerbils, Hamsters, Ferrets and Guinea Pigs. They also were harassing the cats. Once they were finishing holding them, they through them back in the cages which was stressing them out.

If you're looking to buy a healthy long-lasting pet, I suggest you go to PetSmart down the road. The animals are in much better condition & they have their cages locked up so little kids don't come through harassing and bothering the animals.

THIS IS A PETSTORE NOT A PETTING ZOO.

Staff was very friendly and helpful, but I cannot get over the appearance of the cats and the state of their living conditions. I definatly will not be there again! One star is too much just because of that.

Pet Supermarket really needs to take better care of their animals and have their cages off limits for people to come through picking them up. The employees are lazy, and not very friendly. In most petstores, if you even tap on the glass their tell you not to do that as it stresses out the animals, but people in the store get to come in and bother the animals and do what ever they want.

The crickets & fish were in horrible condition, It looked as if their homes weren't cleaned in several months. As far as the crickets, most of them were dead and their were only like two lives ones out of the whole bin. Speaking of which, their bin smelled toxic. With the fish, their aquariums were disgusting. Algae growing on the sides, and the fish looked uncared for.

Most of the staff treat you like family and if there's something outta stock they're glad to order it AND quickly notify you personally when the product is in. It's a true pleasure to shop here.

However, In the hamster's cage, there were two baby Syrian hamsters. One of the hamsters was just lying their passing away because he had wet tail that wasn't treated. Meanwhile, the other hamster was hyper and running all around the cage. By the way, one of the employees admitted that the hamster was dying and acted if he didn't care. The hamster's whole tail was completely brown and wet.
